Katie + Cory

We love asking our couples all the mushy gushy details of how they met and their first feelings about each other. Here is what Katie & Cory had to say:

How did you guys meet?

We originally met due to Cory’s little sister and Katie being friends since elementary school. We “dated” for the first time around 2002 when we were pretty young. The second time, we dated was in 2007/2008. We went our separate ways and then eventually got back together in 2017 so I guess the 3rd time was the charm for us – just took us a few years to figure everything out and get our timing down.

What was your first impression of each other:

Katie: My first impression of Cory was my friends cute older brother. Cory’s family was always pretty close and doing a lot of stuff together (going out to eat, going to the lake, hanging out) so we were around each other a lot. Their home was definitely the “hangout house” growing up so it was easy to be around each other. I can assure you that when I was 17, I wasn’t thinking he was my future husband and father of my child. He always made me laugh (so much so that I had an incident with Strawberry Soda coming back up one time – TMI!) and wasn’t the “mean” older brother that didn’t want his little sister and her friends around so I was always pretty infatuated with him.

Cory: My first impression was immediate attraction, followed by the realization that she was also a lot of fun to be around and most likely out of my league. She was so beautiful yet down to earth. Confident, yet innocent. To be fair, I ended up changing my mind on the innocent part pretty quickly. 🙂

How did you guys get engaged?

We went on our “babymoon” to Siesta Key, Florida. A few days in, Cory had mentioned going on a sunrise walk on the beach. So we got up early to walk out to a sandbar and watch a pod of dolphins play and towards the end of the walk, I (Katie) turned around and Cory was down on one knee. We had talked about getting married but we said we’d wait to do anything until after our son arrived so the timing was definitely a surprise.

What are your favorite things to do together?

Our favorite things to do together are to be with our son whether it’s going for walks at home, introducing him to new things or traveling. As a couple, we are big “foodies” and love to try new restaurants as well as try new recipes at home. We enjoy being outside with our son and our dog playing in the yard.

What is your favorite quality about the other?

Katie: I’d say it’s a tie between his ability to make me laugh and his ability to be the “calm” to my crazy OCD tendencies. 9/10 I can be brought out of an upset mood by one line from Cory. When I’m overwhelmed, unsure or anxious about something, he is always there to reassure me and get me to look at things from another perspective so it doesn’t seem as daunting.

Cory: I was going to say how she takes care of our family and how she is the most giving person I know but then I realized those go hand in hand. Whether it’s taking care of our home, myself, our son, friends, other family or complete strangers, Katie is always thinking of someone else’s needs and anticipating what she can do to help. She is the most thoughtful person I know. Her instinctive nature and instant ability to always want to help are my favorite things about her for sure.
